In Grade 9, “science” means three separate Brevet papers: Biology (علوم الحياة), Physics and Chemistry. They reward different skills — Biology asks for structured answers from documents, Physics for formulas applied correctly with units, Chemistry for equations and reasoning about matter. This guide covers all three.
Biology (Life Sciences)
Main themes: nutrition and the digestive system, respiration and the circulatory system, excretion, the nervous system and senses, reproduction and heredity, and ecosystems. Exam questions usually give a document (table, graph, experiment) and ask you to analyse it, deduce a conclusion and use lesson knowledge to explain it.
- Draw and label the key diagrams from memory.
- Practise the vocabulary of analysis: “the graph shows that…”, “we deduce that…”, “this is explained by…”.
- Learn the experiments in the textbook and what each proves.
Physics
Main themes: electricity (current, voltage, resistance, Ohm's law, series and parallel circuits, electrical power and energy), mechanics (forces, weight and mass, pressure, Archimedes' principle), and optics or energy topics depending on the textbook. Physics marks are lost on units and on skipping the formula line.
- For every law: statement, formula, units, one worked example.
- Practise reading circuit diagrams and drawing them.
- Write formula → substitution → result with unit, every time.
Chemistry
Main themes: atoms and ions, the periodic table, molecules and chemical formulas, chemical reactions and balancing equations, acids and bases, and the mole concept (molar mass, amount of substance). Balancing equations and mole calculations are the two exercise types that appear every year.
- Balance ten equations a day for a week.
- Know the common ions and their charges.
- Practise mole calculations with a clear table: mass, molar mass, amount.
A weekly science routine
- One chapter per science per week during the year: lesson → practice questions with explanations → chapter exam.
- Keep three summary sheets (one per science) with diagrams, laws and equations.
- From April, one mock paper per science per week, timed.
- Review every answer after a test; redo the chapters with the lowest scores.
Questions students ask
Is Grade 9 science in English or Arabic?
On EduRise, Biology, Physics and Chemistry are in English, as in most Lebanese schools that teach science in English.
Which science chapters should I revise first?
Start with the chapters you scored lowest on in chapter exams; your EduRise progress map shows them in red. Electricity (Physics), chemical equations and the mole (Chemistry), and the digestive/circulatory systems (Biology) are heavily tested.
