Grade 7 Mathematics Study Guide – Lebanese Curriculum

Published 22 September 2026 · by EduRise

Grade 7 opens the intermediate cycle and introduces two ideas that carry through to the Brevet: negative numbers and letters standing for numbers. Students who understand these two ideas early find Grades 8 and 9 far smoother. This guide summarises the Grade 7 Mathematics programme in Lebanese schools and how to revise it.

Relative numbers (integers and decimals with signs)

Comparing and ordering positive and negative numbers, addition and subtraction with signs, then multiplication and division. The number line is the best tool: “subtracting a negative” becomes a move to the right. Practise mixed operations with brackets until sign errors disappear.

Fractions and decimals

Equivalent fractions, simplifying, adding and subtracting with different denominators, multiplying and dividing fractions, and converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. Common mistake: adding numerators and denominators separately.

Algebraic expressions and first equations

Writing expressions from words (“three more than twice a number”), simplifying like terms, evaluating expressions, and solving simple equations such as 2x + 5 = 15 (x = 5). Always check by substituting back.

Proportionality

Recognising proportional tables, the coefficient of proportionality, percentages, scales and unit conversions. Learn to check proportionality by comparing ratios.

Geometry: angles, parallel lines, triangles, symmetry

Angle vocabulary (acute, right, obtuse, adjacent, vertically opposite, alternate, co-interior with parallel lines), constructing triangles, the sum of angles in a triangle (180°), perpendicular bisector and angle bisector, central symmetry and reflection. Use a ruler and protractor: constructions are marked.

Perimeter, area and volume

Perimeter and area of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms and circles (π), and volume of cuboids. Write the formula, substitute with units, and give the unit in the answer.

How to revise

  1. Lesson, then 15–20 practice questions with explanations, then the timed chapter exam.
  2. Keep a rules page: sign rules, fraction rules, angle facts, area formulas.
  3. Weekly flashcards for vocabulary (relative number, coefficient, bisector…).
  4. Ask when something is unclear — Grade 7 concepts are used for three years.
